Part I

I did Part I of II this morning... 5.5 miles at Wash Park... despite my bloody nose, it was a good run! Tonight I'll do another five or so and then try to get up and do it again in the morning. (I deserve this, trust me... I "overindulged" all weekend for E's birthday! I gotta detox in every sense of the word!!!)

A Little Background....

Dawn's Story:
On February 23rd, just five days after returning from a trip to Ghana, Africa, Dawn Dubsky went to Northwestern Hospital to get tested for Malaria because she had been experiencing fatigue, fever, and a severe headache. The test results came back positive and she was admitted immediately. One day after being diagnosed, Dawn was fighting for her life in the ICU as her body went into septic shock and her organs began to fail. She was transferred to the University of Chicago Medical Center on Feb. 29th and was brought immediately into surgery to save her life.

On March 3rd, Dawn lost her limbs to her knees and elbows. Despite several exhaustingly long and traumatic surgeries, her courageous fight continues. Her strength and determination are a source of inspiration for her entire family and friends.
Dawn is a generous and kind-hearted soul who has touched the lives of everyone she's ever come in contact with. A beautiful, free-spirit who has seen the world over, she is an adventurer who loved to hike, bike, surf, skateboard, snowboard, and also finished four marathons. She is a care-taker who worked with children and the sick and has contributed considerable amounts of positive energy onto our earth in her time here. If there were more like Dawn among us, the world would be a better place.

Dawn graduated form Andrew High School in 1993 and attended the University of Iowa where she graduated with a B.S. in Nursing.

Dawn truly lives life and her adventures have taken her to places such as Thailand, Spain, Mexico, Africa, and nearly every state in the U.S.

When Dawn is not traveling or working in other places around the world, she works as a nurse at Children's Memorial Hospital. On her trip to Africa, she even brought much needed supplies to a hospital. She is constantly displaying selfless acts and giving her all in everything she does. Dawn also has a very artistic side, which is why she was going to school to complete another undergraduate degree in Fashion Design.

Dawn has helped and inspired so many people around the world.
Now it's our turn to take care of Dawn.

As friends of Dawn here in Colorado, we plan to tackle the Wild West Relay in August (www.wildwestrelay.com). This 195 mile race will take us from Ft. Collins to Steamboat Springs. There will be twelve of us running three legs of five miles each and numerous volunteers doing everything from driving us in vans, volunteering for the race itself, securing t-shirts for the runners, and raising money for our friend Dawn.

Dawn is finally at the Rehab Institute of Chicago (which has been voted the best in the country and the director is THE world renowned MD that has created the bionic/most advanced prosthetics..this is very exciting!).

We are running this race in the hope that we can help her get the best that money can buy!

The race is going to be fun, challenging, beautiful, dark at times, cold at times, uphill (and downhill) a lot and an experience we will never forget! The positive-vibes that the relay itself creates is astounding. Compounded by the personal cause we are supporting, this will be an emotional, wonderful, exciting event to be a part of that will make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside when we are done!
